The WIPSG weekend Convention held at Sedgebrook Hall on 11/12 October was a huge success. Peter Fernbank was the keynote speaker and delivered an excellent presentation on the Bahamas Stamp Issues to 1935. The auction had takings of over £30,000 and there were displays covering many Caribbean islands. There was even an amusing quiz about tropical fruit and veg appearing on stamps which suggested that whilst many members know their waterm rks and perforations, not many pay attention to the descriptions on the fronts of stamps. The prize was a basket of fruit, veg and a bottle of Barbados rum
The award winners were Nigel Mohammed – the Booth Award – for his excellent article on Trinidad Revenue stamps, and Simon Richards – the Freeland Award – for his book 'Dominica: Philately t0 1967'.
Many thanks to Steve and Vivienne Jarvis for coordinating all of the arrangements.
