£ 75 link Anguilla A commercial censored cover from Anguilla Valley to Stoke-on-Trent, posted in The Valley on 4 December and with 2s 6½d paid for the full transatlantic airmail rate. It went first to St Kitts (9 DE date stamp) and was censored there with a fine strike of the fancy lozenge CH4 mark with manuscript numeral ‘9’, it is back stamped Antigua DE 11 and in England was opened and resealed with Examined By/7554 tape. The only downside is the rough opening at top has badly damaged the ½d stamp
£ 20 link Anguilla Three covers with Anguilla Valley postmarks: the tercentenary set addressed locally to Roger Wells NO 10 50; 20c franking with QEII 3c, 5c, 12c sent registered to USA 4 AU 65: finally 10 Feb 68 long folded airmail envelope to Devon at 40c rate (2x3c, 4c and 2x 15c)

£ 20 link Antigua 2 March 1845 interisland letter from Antigua to Grenada, only a fairly poor strike of the Antigua date stamp on the reverse – ex Booth, who was intrigued by the charge of 6d, the interisland packet rate of 4d, plus 2d. but why – the accounting 4 then 2 totalled to 6 is clear in the top rt
£ 60 link Antigua A neatly opened envelope to Revd Rigaud of Magdalen College. Oxford, franked with GB 6d, it is a pity the sender did not exercise the same care separating the stamp, scissor trimmed perfs at the base, a missing lower left corner and with a portion of the adjacent stamp at top
£ 90 link Antigua Presentable examples of the GB 4d and 6d cancelled A02, SG Z4, 5 cat. £780

£ 10 link Antigua The QEII definitives with the change of watermark to the St Edwards Crown Block CA are less often seen, here we can offer a mint set together with a used set that lacks the ½c and 1c SG149-158 cat £23. With it you get two slogan cancels ‘Post Early for Christmas’ on Air Mail cover to Bahamas Dec 1964 and ‘Where Land and Sea Make Beauty’ on April 1963 cover also to the Bahamas, and which must be the earlier watermark 3c (black and yellow-orange SG123a) and 12c
£ 50 link Antigua An attractively written up study of the 1966 definitive issue, for each stamp there is a mint example and a photograph of the main design element, the origins of which are unknown to us, but appear contemporary. The full set of sixteen treated this way seems to warrant near full catalogue valuation. Quite a challenge to improve the presentation
£ 20 link Antigua The QEII commemoratives from the Coronation to Unesco – 1953-66, generally one mint, one used and four issues with FDC, the BCF one with BOAC airmail etiquette
£ 50 link Antigua Springback binder of commemorative issues, seemingly complete mint and largely complete used from Associated Statehood to the end of 1972, including the miniature sheets, fine condition SG199-348
£ 18 link Antigua C Hinchcliffe of Yorkshire is one of those collectors for whom we should be grateful for arranging to collect examples of the village postmarks. Here we can offer strikes from 12 offices on covers franked with the 10c Blackbeard, all postmarked 1971 – All Saints, Bendals, Bolans, Cedar Grove, Freetown, Grays Farm, Johnsons Point, Liberta, Nelsons Dockyard, Old Road, Parham and Seatons

£ 40 link Antigua SP 26 29 cover from St John’s to London’s Hyde Park was endorsed ‘sent by “Pan American Airways” via U.S.A.’ bearing Antigua 4d and 1s (SG56 and 76?) with Leewards ½d making up the 1s 4½d rate. This was the date of the first northbound flight from Antigua. In place of a first flight cachet you have some foxing spots, and what may be a commercial usage of the first flight
£ 6 link Antigua SJ 1½d with lower sht mgn on cover from Barclays Bank, Antigua to the Union Bank of Manchester, in Yorkshire, nice clean usage
£ 18 link Antigua The S1 large crown censor mark in purple adds interest to this commercial airmail cover to New York sent for 1s 1½d JU 5 4(0)
£ 20 link Antigua Long envelope to New York NO 23 41 fare paid with Leewards 3d orange has two features of added interest, firstly it is JOSE ANJO stationery – the pioneer of Leewards ppc and secondly the large ‘EXAMINED BY CENSOR/ANTIGUA’ on the back – Burrows type S2.1
£ 12 link Antigua L8 Opened by Examiner IB/493 censor label on airmail cover to Washington DC postage 1s 1½d (the 1½d stamp damaged)
£ 30 link Antigua On 21 May 1943 a young lady sent this ppc of St John’s Cathedral to her uncle in Trinidad where it arrived five days later after passing through the hands of the censor and with a faint, but discernible octagonal Crown/Passed/IB2 hand stamp – Burrows type S4 who gives it a scarcity rating of 8 and says ‘only known on a postcard’ and ‘20 August 1944’ so this is substantially earlier than his EKD
£ 15 link Antigua Three covers and a modern ppc: 1946 Peace issue on FDC from Barbuda; FDC of six KG6 definitives 1949; 2005 envelope and ppc with butterfly definitives sent to UK
£ 10 link Antigua Two 1960’s covers with maritime flavour – one posted on board Cunard’s RMS Franconia to Oldham has a strip of 6x GB ½d cancelled by Antigua Paquebot and St Johns date stamp of 17 FE 64. With it comes a cover with the 1966 GB World Cup 4d with Antigua Paquebot cancel and the Purser’s dated cachet for RMS Andes on 26 NOV 1966
£ 30 link Antigua One could easily ignore this roughly opened Leewards 1d rose PSE sent from Antigua to the Royal Naval College at Greenwich on AU 3 98, it is uprated with QV 1d and 2½d stamps, but under the 1d is the ‘Late fee’ handstamp. Proud’s I2 and eight months before the EKD given by him
£ 18 link Antigua Postal stationery collection on pages – 18 items mainly unused, but includes one Specimen and three used, one PSRE with stamp removed
£ 12 link Antigua Three b/w ppc’s produced by the Albertype Co, of Brooklyn New York. Photographer Jose Anjo. The three pictures are ‘Shipbuildng Quarters’, Dockyard; Creekside Bridge; Picking Coconuts, Cades Bay. The three unused but clearly of the same series and we would place between the wars, nice condition
£ 12 link Antigua Three pages featuring English Harbour and Nelsons Dockyard with postcard views and stamps cancelled there including a QV 6d with A18
£ 15 link Antigua Four PECO b/w ppc from the same series, three miscellaneous colour ppc and to our eyes the star an early undivided back card with a photographic view of the Governor’s Residence and sent to London 1 January 1902 with Leewards QV 1d – as early a ppc as we can recall from Antigua

£ 25 link Barbuda The Leeward 6d optd BARBUDA (SG5) on regd printed envelope to Inniss & Son, Trinidad JY 24 22 – an early use
£ 30 link Barbuda Pairs of Barbuda 1d and 3d sandwich 2d slate-grey on philatelic cover to Colchester of NOV 22 23. Perhaps some of the original issue was still held on the island, after post office stocks had run out – we know not
£ 60 link Barbuda Two OHMS covers to Louis Hermes in New York each with the Post Office/Crown/Barbuda oval h/stamp. The first sent OC 20 2(6?) for 1½d (Leewards ½d and 1d), the other larger envelope seems more contrived as it bears blocks of four of Leewards ½d, 3d and 6d, sent MY 18 31 the rate is 3/2 but interestingly the printed registration label is ANTIGUA,/BARBUDA NO. 1 – the first of a new type – the 3d and 6d are both Die I -so SG51(b?), 53, 59

£ 10 link Bahamas Three QEII covers to ZNS Studios in the 1965-70 period with postmark interest – Green Turtle Cay; Knowles; Long Bay Cay – Knowles rated as ‘Scarce’ by Horry

£ 50 link Bermuda Nicely matched wing mgn examples of the 1865 1d penny in two shades, rose-red? and pale rose SG1,2 fine mint cat. £200+
£ 100 link Bermuda By contrast four largely deeper shades of SG1 all mint one very well centred, all clean cat. £400
£ 40 link Bermuda Gazing a little wistfully at an exact central and upright half of type K3a ‘5’ duplex on 3d CC yellow-buff (SG5a), we suddenly realise this is not a half-a-loaf situation, but a cause for delight. How otherwise could a stamp of queen’s head size accommodate the characteristic both of the numeral and of the cds? So it must be right to offer to a discriminating fan of these numerals. The background is ideal to do justice to a lightish strike. Unrepeatable
£ 75 link Bermuda KG6 10/- perf 14 substantially o.g., the gum with characteristic WWII streakiness; perf 13 mint – these are SG119a, 119e, both cheerfully fresh, cat. £273

£ 35 link British Honduras Fitzherbert letter date lined Belize 21 March 1832 to Ashbourne, fine Liverpool receiving date stamp on reverse MY 11 1832. Rated 8d and carried by ‘The Lord Stanley’
£ 60 link British Honduras Two examples of the Belize double-arc date stamp to take these envelopes to Leicester in 1854. These show the change in packet rate that year. The first sent FE 17 1854 was charged 1s, whilst the second sent OC 17 1854 just 6d. All the postmarks are on the backs
£ 125 link British Honduras Incoming letter from London to Belize with plate 1 2s blue sent FE 15 1873 arrival mark MR 11 73 on front along with boxed L1 late fee. Scarce destination and stamp catalogues £700 on cover

£ 95 link British Honduras This single rate cover to Mrs Woodward in Bath, 4d mauve, sent MR 16 1887 is ex Matheson and had a hammer price of £320
£ 80 link British Honduras OHMS envelope to Birmingham sent registered 9 Jun 1888 with passage paid with local surcharge 20c on 6d
£ 250 link British Honduras Aikman/Blackie envelope to Glasgow with 6 in black on 10 cents on 4d and also 6 in red on 10 cents on 4d, the latter inverted, a scarce and popular, if philatelic franking
£ 60 link British Honduras 2 examples of each of the 2c on 1d and 3c on 3d London surcharges (SG37, 38) make up the 10c rate to send this envelope to Mainz. Considerable interest is added by the ‘Lainfiesta’s Union Hotel’ logo on the front and a picture of the hotel on the back. The picture on the back may have been from the hotel’s stationery enclosed in the envelope as it is stuck over the arrival date stamp, scarce and seemingly commercial
£ 35 link British Honduras London print 10c on 6d SG40 on AU 30 1889 envelope to Montreal, clean commercial usage
£ 25 link British Honduras The same 10c rate on a cover to Darmstadt sent OC 24 90 also appears commercial and is a nice clean example from a General Merchant
£ 40 link British Honduras Monogrammed envelope to Liverpool cost 20c to send via New Orleans. The one 2c and 6 3c stamps (SG52, 53) did not receive a date stamp in Belize and are all cancelled on Dec 18 1894 in New Orleans, New York transit date stamp two days later and to add interest a nice strike of the ‘Paid/Liverpool/US Packet’ mark in red on 29 Dec 1894
£ 75 link British Honduras A pair of the FIVE cents on 3c on 3d (SG49) took this registered cover all the way to BUENOS AIRES via New Orleans and New York on MY 8 1896 we can safely say unusual destination
£ 20 link British Honduras A pair of straightforward 1898 keyplate covers to the UK, just prior to the introduction of the Imperial Penny Post: 5c to Lewisham 23 NOV 98 shows the letter rate; the second envelope franked with just a 2c stamp and inscribed ‘Card only’ went at the printed matter rate to Jersey on DE 9 98
£ 25 link British Honduras A pair of the keyplate 3c with sheet mgn to Winch Bros, Colchester sent May 14 1892
£ 75 link British Honduras A keyplate 2c cover used within the colony is well worth a second look, turn it over and there is faint but discernible strike of Orange Walk from where this cover was sent to Belize MY 4 1898 - distinctly scarce
£ 30 link British Honduras Keyplate 5c on two envelopes to Guatemala, firstly a pair MY 4 1896 and then a single AP 20 1898
£ 50 link British Honduras Naples is another unusual destination here on Aikman’s own stationery sent registered AU 29 1902 via Liverpool with 1901 10c (SG58)
£ 35 link British Honduras Coloured ppc ‘Unloading Bananas – Belize Market’ sent to New York in 1909. Considerable further interest is added by the pair of KEVII 1c stamps on the picture side cancelled with the NEW RIVER SERVICE date stamp
£ 50 link British Honduras The Temporary Rubber Ovals introduced in 1949 are a popular collecting area. Here we offer five, all with KG6 frankings, to different addressees and we think not just to philatelic addresses: BOMBA; DOUBLE HEAD CABBAGE; GALES POINT; MONKEY RIVER; PLACENCIA – all rated at least Scarce by Horry
£ 35 link British Honduras We lot singly the larger TRO of SAND HILL in use for just four months in 1961, here on an airmail letter to Houston sent on 5 October. Horry rates as Rare (that is only 3-5 copies exist)
£ 30 link British Honduras A used block of 20 of the $2 stamped at the Registration Branch 25 Jan 1962 – is this the largest used multiple? It must be a contender SG189 - cat. £90
£ 50 link British Honduras Pre-printed First Flight cover of 15 March 1939 from Punta Gorda to Belize, locally addressed with 3c (SG152); we think a scarce item
£ 75 link British Honduras The ‘WAR’ overprint on this 1c green SG114 has been inverted and split – ex Harper (lot 1135) and Sir Henry Tucker
£ 15 link British Honduras On the later 1c green War overprint a less conspicuous flaw appears in the ‘A’ at the top left corner of the r.h. pane – here shown in a pair with margins to contrast – a neat variety

£ 30 link Danish West Indies Variously rated 23 in red, 17 in blue, 1/4 in black we are uncertain whether this 1854 EL on business from St Croix to Copenhagen is written in Danish or a tongue of which we know even less. It shows St Thomas dbl. arc transit of MR 3 54 overstruck with red London cds of AP 17 – these across the flap, balanced at left by oval cancel and dbl-ring cds beneath both dated 19 AP, latter looks like Hamburg-Copenhagen TPO, arrived endorsed 21 Apr. All marks are clear to intelligible, and were they in English, we’d value upwards
£ 30 link Danish West Indies Unused and used examples of the late 19th cy 2c grey-blue p/s env, the used one commercially despatched in 1886 from St Thomas to Vera Cruz, Mexico, (well worth our estimate on its own), together with the usual prolific and assumedly philatelic diagonal bisect on 4c sent locally from Christianstad to Frederikstad in St Croix, 1903

£ 35 link Dominica Late use of 6d postal fiscal on 3 April 1912 registered cover to New Jersey
£ 50 link Dominica The wartime Postal Surcharge order of 1940 added ¼d to the printed matter rate sent overseas. Very few examples have been reported and those mostly from the Surbrook missionary correspondence. This example to Miss Mollie Norton in Chicago was sent 15 September 1950 paid with a vertical strip of three ¼d stamps by J L Davey in Roseau. The only question mark is why the envelope is now stuck down – did it contravene the ‘unsealed’ requirement to use the printed matter rate or has it subsequently got stuck?
£ 80 link Dominica The wartime Postal Surcharge lasted until 1952 and the decimal currency era making ¼d become ½c. The discovery copy of this rate in the decimal era was a Christmas card sent in 1951 to the Elvin family in Brooklyn. Now a second envelope, sent unsealed, from the same correspondence can be offered, sent 8 Dec 1951 paid with a vertical strip of three ½c stamps.

£ 20 link Grenada The 2006 RPSL certificate shows that this stamp was once owned by Joseph Hackmey – a fine unused example of SG2 the 1d green rough perf 14-16. There is no gum and the certificate says ‘soiled on the reverse’ but pleasing appearance
£ 75 link Grenada We offer SG2 and 3 together as both show first period use of the alphabet pmks. The D, at 6 o’clock, is not a challenging mark in the context, but a worthy example. The 6d, centred NW, but a lovely soft shade, showing only the right half of the cds has the cleanest postmark we’ve ever seen of its class. Only the bottom tip of the letter is visible but it is plainly the tip of the letter A, and the 61 of the year is plain as plain. Believe us, cancels in that year are a real rarity
£ 60 link Grenada Gently cancelled 6d dull rose-red (SG8) cat. £225 centred SE

£ 12 link Grenada QV 1/- keyplate (SG55) attractively cancelled with a neat Grenada cds of SP 96 in black placed next to the red London regd hooded cds, if anything the slightly washed shade of the green enhances the effect. Cat. £65 with pluses and minuses

£ 40 link Grenada 6 items here with Grenada connections: a cover to Lennards of Bristol bearing KG6 1½d posted on board Harrison Line’s S.S.INANDA; a 1931 philatelic cover, 5 stamps rising from ¼d to 2d h/stamped VISIT GRENADA, beneath this, in violet “via A.O.LINE”, we guess that A.O. is not meant to stand for Any Other; convenience cover franked 5 ore from the Swedish Paquebot m/s Kungsholm, landed at Grenada 18 MR 35; a William Butler airmail cover landed Grenada in the 1960’s, presumably on its way to Toronto, and endorsed RMS Carmania/Paquebot/Mail; a United Fruit Co, cover, the Grenada SJ 1d cancelled by a first day violet cachet from SS Veragua and a special boxed, dated, Purser’s cachet reading “Honored/for Passage/SS VERAGUA!; lastly a b/w ppc of the Exchange, Manchester sent from Swindon to Torquay in 1903 is to prove – as it does - that the Swindon Station cds SP3 12 resting on 2d orange, Grenada’s SG79, is authentic, with the trouble taken to cross-match – a rarity
£ 20 link Grenada We give no detailed description for four covers of ’58 and ’60 from S.S. Nieuw Amsterdam or for RMS ANDES ’63 and QEII ’69; there’s more animation in a ’64 cover Posted on Board M.V. FEDERAL PALM out of Trinidad on its way to New Jersey. All five were landed in Grenada

£ 45 link Jamaica Our set of pines featuring A32 sadly lacks the very rare 4d, and an additional 1d is only partial compensation

£ 75 link Jamaica A35 on full set of pines, watermark CC set to 6d and watermark CA set to 4d, fine to very fine strikes 22 stamps in all
£ 70 link Jamaica At Dry Harbour the A36 type H obliterator was lost early on - the type L obliterator that replaced it did not arrive until 1862 – in the meanwhile stamps were cancelled with ‘36’ in manuscript, here we offer the very rare 1d pine so cancelled, before being additionally cancelled A01 in Kingston
£ 10 link Jamaica A superb strike of A36 on the 2d keyplate is seemingly ex Foster
£ 60 link Jamaica A38 Falmouth, full set of 6 pines plus additional 1s shade and 3d pair, slightly marred by scissor trim to the top or we would have lotted individually
£ 30 link Jamaica The type ‘N’ A38 obliterator was re-allocated to Up Park Camp and a very fine strike on this 4d wmk CA (SG22) is most attractive
£ 30 link Jamaica Superb strike of A39 on 1s pine, ex Winand
£ 50 link Jamaica A39 on Official stamps are all very rare, this lot offers the ½d SGO3
£ 60 link Jamaica The 1d keyplate official SGO4 with A39 is ex Hemmings
£ 50 link Jamaica Of the three strikes of A39 this on the 2d keyplate SGO5 is probably the finest
£ 60 link Jamaica A40 on 4d pineapple watermark seems not to have been seen and this is a fine strike
£ 42 link Jamaica Finding A41 on the 4d pine is not much easier and this is a very fine strike
£ 100 link Jamaica Stony Hill used violet blue ink for a short period and here is a very fine and very rare strike of A41 on the 2½d provisional
£ 60 link Jamaica A43 on five of the six pines, no 2d, the strike on the 6d is superb and ex-Hemmings, 1d and 3d are wing marginals

£ 40 link Jamaica A44 on watermark crown CC, six of the seven values (no 3d) the 1s has a fine strike but is damaged at right
£ 80 link Jamaica The ½d Official with inverted overprint (SGO1e) is scarce anyway, here with clear strike of A44 makes for a distinctly scarce item, we pair with the same stamp also cancelled A44 with the normal overprint
£ 120 link Jamaica A46 features on two pages, the watermark CC set is complete to 6d, with extra 2d; the watermark CC set to 4d, with addnl ½d and 4d and finally the three keyplate stamps – 19 stamps in all

£ 30 link Jamaica The 1d postal fiscal SG F3 is a fine strike of A51 rated very rare and ex Hugh Wood
£ 50 link Jamaica The 3d fiscal SG F6 also shows a fine strike of A51 though the stamp is slightly faded as might be expected from the ink, also ex Hugh Wood and rated extremely rare
£ 25 link Jamaica A mixed group of unusual usages of A53, the ½d green wmk CA, the 1d keyplate, both rated very scarce, and a seemingly unrecorded use on a cut out indicum from a ½d postal stationery wrapper
£ 75 link Jamaica A54 type H is very rare indeed on 3d watermark CC, this example has the top of the ‘A’ the top half of the ‘5’ and most of the ‘4’ – so clear but not full – a pencil annotation on the reverse says ‘3 known’
£ 75 link Jamaica You can contrast with the A54 type J allocated to Mile Gully in 1862 where we can offer full strikes on four pines – 1d, 2d, 3d and 1s
£ 60 link Jamaica An attractive page featuring A55 on stamps with the Crown CC wmk; two shades of the ½d on pairs, 3 shades of the 1d and then the set to 1s, the 2d apparently ex Hugh Wood

£ 25 link Jamaica Very clear A58 type J (issued to Bluefields) on 3d pine, stamp scissor trimmed to the left, and rated very rare

£ 50 link Jamaica Type M obliterators were only issued to four offices, A28, A82, A83 and here A60 Ocho Rios issued in 1876. Here we offer the ½d, 1d, 2d, 4d and 1s on watermark CC paper
£ 50 link Jamaica We separate out the very rare 3d on watermark CC paper with type M strike of A60, which shows a double strike
£ 40 link Jamaica A61 on seven stamps on watermark crown CC paper, all values to 1s, bar 4d which is not recorded so cancelled and with extra ½d
£ 45 link Jamaica The London Official opt on ½d pair shows a very fine A62 strike, is very rare and ex Hugh Wood

£ 60 link Jamaica Outstanding strike of A63 on 6d pine and very rare
£ 75 link Jamaica On 2½d provisional SG30 A63 is rated extremely rare
£ 20 link Jamaica Splendid strike of A63 on Falls (SG31), ex Hugh Wood too
£ 75 link Jamaica We offer intact the set of six pines cancelled A64 that Paul acquired from the Winand sale
£ 40 link Jamaica A64 on the 2½d provisional is very rare anyway, but this one also shows the ‘PFNNY’ variety so SG30c – cat. £70 + pmk premium
£ 240 link Jamaica In 1878 blue ink was used at Port Antonio to apply the A64 cancel. This set of six to 6d represents quite an achievement and three are ex Hugh Wood the ½d, 1d and 3d
£ 10 link Jamaica A65 on strip of three 1d carmine SG18 not common sounds about right
£ 35 link Jamaica Whereas A65 on 3d fiscal is extremely rare, fine strike but only the left hand part of the ‘5’ is present, enough to convince but not complete
£ 35 link Jamaica Sticking with the 3d fiscal SG F6, this is a fine stamp with very fine strike of A66 Port Maria and extremely rare and ex Hugh Wood
£ 80 link Jamaica A page for Port Royal – A67 the set of six pines with additional 4d and 1s – the particularly fine 2d is ex Hugh Wood
£ 45 link Jamaica Of the three keyplates with A67 the 2½d is the very rare one, this ex Hugh Wood

£ 20 link Jamaica A69 on ½d and 2d keyplate and a superb strike on the 2½d provisional
£ 30 link Jamaica The A69 on this London Official ½d is not very distinct, which reflects its scarcity
£ 30 link Jamaica Superb strike of A70 on 3d pine, very rare, straight edge to right may reflect scissor trim or sheet mgn
£ 65 link Jamaica A70 on 2d Official SG O5, superb strike, extremely rare
£ 80 link Jamaica Page of pines cancelled A71 with additional 6d and 1s, four are noted as ex Potter by Paul

£ 200 link Jamaica A75 type H was very short lived as it was lost in early 1861, this strike on 4d pine is ex Hugh Wood
£ 40 link Jamaica On discovering his loss the Sav-la-Mar postmaster used the date stamp to cancel the stamps until a new type L was issued in late 1862. Here the date on this 2d pale rose pine is AU 14 62
£ 20 link Jamaica Paul postulates that the Sav-la-Mar date on this 6d pine may be the last known date – do you agree? It is OC 6 62
£ 10 link Jamaica A block of four of the 2d wmk CC SG9 – top pair cancelled A76 bottom paid A01 – most unusual
£ 10 link Jamaica A76 on halfpenny pairs – wmk CC claret vertical, wmk CA green horizontal

£ 60 link Jamaica A78, full set of six pines, fine strikes and the 4d attributed to Hugh Wood
£ 180 link Jamaica A79 Richmond opened in 1863 and the numeral instrument became damaged early on and was then used with the ‘7’ missing. Thus a 1d pine with a superb and full strike is an item to treasure, this example is ex Hugh Wood
£ 180 link Jamaica The ‘A 9’ on 1d pine is even rarer and would make a neat companion for the previous lot, though the strike is not so bold
£ 45 link Jamaica Richmond was then issued with a type J killer with A79 complete your 1d pines with this bold strike ex Hugh Wood and very rare
£ 20 link Jamaica The type J A79 is rare on keyplates too, here on 2½d and also ex Hugh Wood

£ 75 link Jamaica Large piece inscribed ‘packet’ with Little River DE 23 69 date stamps proves that the two 1d blues must have the pineapple wmk. A full strike of E58 appears on the pair and it is a pity that in keeping the strike in full someone has reduced the right stamp by 10%, an extremely rare item
£ 100 link Jamaica 1d wmk CC with half E58 in blue ink, very rare and we pair with a similar strike on the same stamp cancelled in black ink to contrast
£ 60 link Jamaica Three stamps from the wmk CA set cancelled F80 – the 1d carmine, 2d slate and 4d red-orange, clear strikes each

£ 75 link Jamaica We single out this very fine strike of F97 on 4d wmk CA SG11, very rare
£ 75 link Jamaica The F98 office at Chester Castle only opened in February 1872 so to find it used on a 1d pine is extremely rare
£ 80 link Jamaica Five of the wmk CC set - ½d, 1d, 2d, 4d, 6d clearly cancelled with G13 of Half Way Tree
£ 50 link Jamaica Very fine strike of G13 on 2½d provisional SG30, very rare
£ 20 link Jamaica The Falls stamps SG31 and 32 with superb strikes of G14 Hampden

£ 30 link Jamaica The wmk CC 1d, 2d and 6d all clearly cancelled G15
£ 20 link Jamaica Most attractive pair of 1d carmine, SG18 with single full G15 cancel, ex Hugh Wood
£ 60 link Jamaica Four stamps from the 1890’s superbly cancelled G16, keyplate 1d, 2d, then the 2½d provisional and finally 1d postal fiscal
£ 60 link Jamaica The 6d orange yellow SG23 is seldom encountered cancelled with a numeral and cancelled ‘193’ is extremely rare

£ 40 link Jamaica Full strike of ‘615’ on 1d SG8
£ 90 link Jamaica The larger size of the Falls design can show off a full numeral strike perfectly, as here with the very rare ‘615’ on SG30
£ 35 link Jamaica ‘617’ very clear on this 1s dull brown SG13
£ 60 link Jamaica The three keyplate stamps cancelled ‘622’ the 1d ex Nethersole, the 2½d ex Hemmings and has a nibbled top rt corner
£ 110 link Jamaica The 4d red-orange SG11 is very rare indeed when cancelled with ‘631’ - as here, perfs scissor cut at top
£ 50 link Jamaica You can’t offer the five Official stamps SG O1-5 from many offices, but ‘640’ May Pen is an exception, the local 16mm opt is rated very rare
£ 40 link Jamaica 6d mauve SG12 lightly but clearly cancelled ‘642’ at Petersfield
£ 40 link Jamaica On the 2½d provisional SG30 you get a clearer strike of ‘642’ but only ‘64’ and the top ‘curl’ of the ‘2’ fitted on to the stamp

£ 25 link Leeward Islands The reversion to die I 1s, SG87, unmounted mint from the top rt. corner of sheet numbered 030 with full sheet margins, cat. £55+
£ 40 link Leeward Islands Complete r.h pane of 60 of the KG6 2½d light blue plate no.2, apparently ex Spavin and allocated provisionally to 1944 printing
£ 180 link Leeward Islands The broken ‘E’ variety on 5s, we will assume SG 112ba but even this lower priced rarity has a cat. £1,200
£ 90 link Leeward Islands Two pages with the full KG6 definitive set with additional shades and including two additional 10s stamps, all fine mint, cat. £400+
£ 75 link Leeward Islands The 1945 and 1952 printings of the £1 (SG114 b and c) in mint corner blocks of four plus two additional mint singles of each – cat. £300
£ 40 link Leeward Islands If you’d rather have the 1952 £1 in used block of four on cover then this is for you SG114c
£ 30 link Leeward Islands On 1 July 1949 the colours of six of the lower values of the KGVI definitives were changed, On this page we have a cover to Barbados from St John’s with the six values, dated AU 24 49. More interesting though are the set of six mint corner pairs with plate no. 3 and in the case of the 2d 2 and 3 – these are worth a distinct premium
£ 12 link Leeward Islands Page with the short-lived QEII definitive set, fine mint SG126-140 cat. £60
£ 16 link Leeward Islands Leewards used in St Kitts 1890 1d and 4d, Sexagenary 1d, 2½d and 1d on 7d pair – the Sexagenary pmks are less clear than the others
£ 6 link Leeward Islands The three 1d surcharges SG17-19 are not difficult, but these are pleasing mint singles with full o.g. cat. £27
£ 30 link Leeward Islands A collection of largely KG6 Leeward Island commemoratives arranged to show them used in each island. One page for each. This includes the Coronation set used in Anguilla, Barbuda and Nevis. For the Silver Wedding 5/- you get six examples, two used in Antigua, two in Montserrat and one each used in St Kitts and Virgin Islands. An interesting way to try and collect these issues and with room for expansion
£ 250 link Leeward Islands A cover to Manchester posted on board the RMS Eden and put into the post on MR 18 98. The 2½d postage paid with 2x 1d and a ½d QV Leeward definitives, but these have been inscribed ‘Eden’ in red. The only cover inscribed Eden that we recall was in Graham Booth’s collection where it realised £800
£ 12 link Leeward Islands Somewhat battered envelope from Antigua to Madeira postage 2½d (KE½d, 2x 1d) sent OC 19 04, Funchal arrival 9 NOV 04 on reverse, unusual
£ 15 link Leeward Islands OHMS envelope, unusually with the official post office letter still inside, sent registered to Boston DE 9 04, postage 6d paid by SG25
£ 8 link Leeward Islands A locally used ppc sent to Mrs Spooner, Bendals MR 13 12 with KE 1d paying fee – the ppc shows an inside view of the Anglican Cathedral, St John
£ 40 link Leeward Islands Five covers with Leeward stamps used in St Kitts: three Royal Bank of Canada envelopes to Georgetown, BG sent 1925-26 two for 1½d, one for 2d; two regd back to England, 1929 3x 1½d, one 1926 2x 3d (we think deep ultramarine) (2x £60 off cover)
£ 25 link Leeward Islands Lower mgnl die II 3d, vert. pair took OHMS cover regd to London in 1926. Flap is partly missing, so we add in another OHMS regd same year to Barbados (b/stamp Barbados RLO). Both were sent from Antigua GPO, and second would be classy, had not its die II 6d been mangled to Kingdom come
£ 10 link Leeward Islands On seeing a strip of three farthing stamps on the front of a registered cover to Bath sent 26 FE 29, one’s first thought is how did it get there for that. Turn it over and there is a block of 15 farthing stamps from the bottom three rows of the sheet with plate no. 10 so the 4½d rate is there.
£ 25 link Leeward Islands Three covers to Lennards Ltd in Bristol; two sent by airmail from Antigua, via New York was sent OC 31 29 registered for 1s 7½d (Leewards 1½d, 6d, 1s Die I but not plate 23); then mixed franking with Antigua 3d and 4d combining with Leewards 5d to make up a 1s rate AU 15 31 and finally an item from St Kitts postmarked 16 MR 29 which the sender tried to post surface for 1d, the under payment was noted and a 2d postage due added in the UK
£ 25 link Leeward Islands On the reverse inscribed ‘trip to Porto Rico postponed, so am posting this in Antigua’. This being an envelope to Farnham, Surrey inscribed on the front ‘P.A.A. via Miami & New York’, an early airmail with Leewards 2s (SG74a) sent FE 7 38 – the stamp has cat. £50 off cover
£ 35 link Leeward Islands Two covers from St Kitts, one censored there and one in Antigua. The first sent by airmail 21 AU 1942 for 1s ½d has the St Kitts CH4 fancy lozenge applied in red with the manuscript ‘3’ and has Antigua AU 27 on reverse; the second cover was also sent by air mail, the fare a penny more, to Washington AP 27 43 and was opened in Antigua and resealed with the L7 label of censor 235. Both commercial
£ 75 link Leeward Islands Leewards KEVII 2d PSRE uprated 5½d postage to New York 25 Feb 1913. An observant owner notes carried by a Quebec SS vessel and that the pair of 1d stamps includes the small ‘s’ variety. No less than four receiving marks but sadly it is beyond our eyesight to detect the office of despatch. Our records suggest only 500 of this 1910 envelope which folds to the front were printed and of these just four mint and four used survive, we cannot say if this makes five, but clearly scarce
£ 90 link Leeward Islands In the KGV period there were three reply PSC, ½ green, 1d violet, and 1½d carmine – all are addressed from Antigua to Beckhaus and without messages, but this was thought to be the only way to get the third of these (but see the next lot) and we add in the 1d carmine card addressed the same way. A bit grubby and battered at the edges but only 1,002 of each of the reply card were ever printed.
£ 100 link Leeward Islands However, it appears that there was also Mr Adolphe Schoeller, as a philatelic addressee and here we can offer the 1d violet and 1½d carmine reply PSCs addressed to him in France and sent from Antigua AU 17 28. The condition of these two significantly better than the previous lot
£ 30 link Leeward Islands 1½d PSE sent from St John’s Antigua to Dolcis Shoe Co, London on JA 28 33, London arrival 16 FE on reverse
£ 75 link Leeward Islands We offered one of the scarce 1d carmine PSE’s from Antigua and it realised £120. This year’s envelope is the only one we can recall that was sent registered. The envelope to Glasgow’s School of Accountancy is uprated by 3½d and was sent FE 2 1932, part of the Tercentenary Year slogan cancel also on the envelope. Slightly grubby
£ 18 link Leeward Islands Universal key plate size G 3d PSRE sent from St Kitts to Montgomery Ward 19 MR 34 uprated by 2½d, nice straightforward use
£ 15 link Leeward Islands Group of eight Leeward postal stationery items, seven used. Mixed condition. Best maybe a ½d KE wrapper sent from Antigua to Barbados. A couple sent from Montserrat
£ 12 link Leeward Islands Eight different Leewards postal stationery wrappers optd Specimen, incl Keyplate ¼d. along with six unused wrappers condn a little variable

£ 105 link Montserrat Interesting 1848 cover from Montserrat to Madeira, with an, in places, albino impression of the Montserrat double arc date stamp. On arrival in London it attracted the boxed ‘detained for postage’ hand stamp and did not reach Madeira until December, 160 Reis due. An early use of the new date stamp sent late 1847
£ 150 link Montserrat In 1861 a new date stamp was sent out and this envelope to London may show the EKD reported in Proud p.279 26 JY 1863, the ‘A’ control is inverted and it is hard to read, London arrival AU 14 63 is clear on front with 11/1 accountancy marks. Only 4 strikes recorded, ex Freeland and sold to our vendor in our 2022 sale
£ 40 link Montserrat Small piece with 2x 1d and a 1d bisect to make up a 2½d rate, cancelled A08 and we take to be from March 1883, SG1a on cover cat. £1,400 - on piece?
£ 60 link Montserrat Even harder to value are three bisects on three pieces, one diagonal and one vertical on SG1 and one perf 12.
£ 50 link Montserrat 2½d red-brown wmk Crown CC, SG4 fine mounted mint copy, cat. £250
£ 200 link Montserrat What better way to show off the inverted ‘S’ than in a used pair with the normal ‘S’; our vendor advises that only two used pairs are known of SG8 and with a cat. £1,000 this is a true rarity, very kindly cancelled
£ 15 link Montserrat 2s 6d green and black MCA wmk mint SG32 cat. £65
£ 30 link Montserrat 5s black and red MCA wmk, mint, some gum staining SG33 cat. £160

£ 25 link Montserrat Four pages setting out the 21 stamps of the 1922-29 series by the order in which they were issued, mint in mounts SG63-83, cat. £95
£ 35 link Montserrat Tercentenary of the Colony set SG84-93 mint, seven of the ten stamps show part of the sheet margin, two include part of the imprint. Cat. £160
£ 75 link Montserrat Perhaps fortunately, Montserrat was the only British Caribbean territory to fall for the De Landre Red Cross scam. De Landre, pseudonym of Gaston Fontanille, was arrested in June 1917 but not before he had produced these 1d + 1d French Red Cross labels, trading off the desire to raise funds for the Red Cross worldwide. Here we offer an attractive block of four with register marks in the right hand margin
£ 60 link Montserrat 1876 1d on part front to London inscribed ‘per book post’, the stamp is fine but the cover has two pieces removed and a large nick at the top, sympathetic restoration could help. Montserrat Paid date stamp on front A(U) 26 no year
£ 90 link Montserrat Fragile envelope addressed to Dominica with Montserrat 1d bisect and with the small ‘½’ surcharge, probably applied in Dominica. AP 18 84 date stamp, used to be a popular item but condn a negative here
£ 35 link Montserrat A note with the cover expresses the opinion that the Tercentenary 6d (SG90) is extremely scarce on cover. This single franking is to McFarlan and was sent registered to him in Pennsylvania JU 6 1933
£ 75 link Montserrat Scarce incoming envelope sent from London on FE 5 1890, flap missing, 4d UPU rate paid with 1d lilac and 2x 1½d
£ 35 link Montserrat Censored cover sent by air mail for 1s ½d to the Bronx October 1941 via Antigua, transit date stamp 9 OCT 41 was opened and resealed with the CL2a paper and is amongst the earliest uses recorded by Freeland
£ 35 link Montserrat Air mail envelope sent to Grenada for 2½d NO 27 43 was opened and resealed with a PC90 label type CL5 and examiner AA78 in manuscript
£ 25 link Montserrat This airmail envelope to Aruba was sent for 1s 5d (one of the 2½d stamps badly damaged) where it arrived 31 7 45 and received an incoming censor mark, though seemingly not censored in Montserrat
£ 30 link Montserrat Three philatelic covers to Openshaw in British Columbia were sent in April 1942, each has a block of four of the KG6 definitives, one 2d, one 2½d, one 3d. Each was opened and examined on arrival
£ 10 link Montserrat 9 QE2 covers six are FDC’s (WI Federation, Shakespeare, Churchill, 2x ICY, ITU – then three 1971 to Hinchcliffe with 15c stamp, one sent from Salem, one from Harris
£ 30 link Montserrat Leewards QV PSRE size G to New York with Leewards 2½d added sent OC 5 97, the Wall St address suggests a scarce commercial use
£ 25 link Montserrat The colonial device size G PSRE, also commercially used and sent to Minneapolis on DE 3 03 with 2½d (SG17) added. The date sent is one day after the EKD given by Freeland, c20 recorded – two stain spots on the ‘R’
£ 25 link Montserrat Whereas this unopened Leewards KEVII env to Germany is not, an early registration label is attached and it was sent FE 20 09 with a ½d and 2d dull purple and ochre Leeward definitive added – we take to be SG31 which is not an easy stamp to find cancelled in Montserrat
£ 75 link Montserrat The three Leewards 1d overprints on QV 4d, 6d and 7d (SG17-19) on a cover SP16 1903 from Montserrat to Dominica (arr. b/stamp next day)
£ 20 link Montserrat Eight postal stationery items from Montserrat: six Edwardian period newspaper wrappers, ½d and 1d Specimen, ½d unused and 2x ½d used – one to Antigua, one to Holland, 1d used to Austria may be less commercial; then a 1d PSE also to Austria and finally a 1960 Apsley air letter from the postmaster to Kensington, no stamps, presumably on the grounds of official business

£ 60 link Nevis An old-time plate reconstruction of the 4d orange-yellow used, it appears to have been checked by someone who gave it ten ‘ticks’ and two ? (pos. 4 and 6) – the stamps appear in rather better condition than the paper they are mounted on

£ 60 link Saint Kitts Two pages featuring the larger type stamps of the KG6 definitive series with varieties, generally represented mint and used, including a convincing mint example of SG71a and 2s 6d and 5s on chalk surface paper, this is a fair attempt at completeness of the shades and papers, cat. £200+
£ 25 link Saint Kitts The rest of the King George VI issues on pages mint and used SG78-105 plus the 1937 Coronation set, cat. £105+ cond. generally fine
£ 40 link Saint Kitts Fine strike of Sandy Point AU 18 31 on 2s 6d (SG33)
£ 18 link Saint Kitts 5 covers (2 regd) and a pc from St Kitts, two posted from ‘Old Road’ one Dieppe Road and one FDC from Nevis, mostly philatelic
£ 40 link Saint Kitts The Education Dept in Hong Kong is a scarce destination from St Kitts here on a Universal size H2 PSRE sent with 2½d postage 10 JU 1932, sadly this is the front of the envelope only and so no back stamps
£ 5 link Saint Kitts Miscellaneous lot of three postcards and two 1930’s photographs of St Kitts. One is a 1907 incoming postcard with a view of Arundel Castle; a 1930’s photocard of a plantation with no stamp and most intriguingly a postcard of a print of the battle between Admirals Hood and De Grasse in 1782; this was sent to London in 1934 with 1d rose-carmine
£ 18 link Saint Kitts Two used ½d postal stationery wrappers. One Leeward Islands QV used locally to Cayon OC 23 93 and one with Columbus to a Rev Meister at a local Presbytery Ap 10 1910. We pair with Medicinal Spring 1d PSC and Specimen reply PSC
£ 25 link Saint Kitts Five covers from the KG5 reign: 7 x ½d optd WAR TAX on regd cover to New York 27 JA 17; 1d Medicinal Spring to Tortola FE 4 19; strip of three ½d stamp on RBC cover to New York MY 3 19; 1937 1½d SG40 to London and Leewards 1½d on 1938 cover to Edinburgh. All seem commercial
£ 12 link Saint Kitts Early commercial airmail to Stratford, London, with airmail etiquette sent 13 NO 36 via Antigua for 1s 2d, made up of Leewards 1½d red-brown Die I (SG84) and St Kitts Nevis ½d and 1s SG24 and 31
£ 20 link Saint Kitts Page with good selection of Leewards used in St Kitts for the QV keyplates there are 4x ½d, 2x 1d, 2x 2½d and 4d; 6 KGV keyplates including the 5d, 1d SJ and for KG6 keyplate 2½d and 1s – 17 in all
£ 10 link Saint Kitts Miscellany here with a map of St Christopher surrounded by a dozen stamps with a variety of cancels from QV to QE2, with it you get a 26 MR 41 OHMS envelope to USA and two Eastern Caribbean coins which were only introduced in the mid 1950’s some years after decimalisation – here the 2c and $1 coins
£ 20 link Saint Kitts JU 12 95 envelope sent to Horsham, Sussex with Leeward keyplates – 3x ½d and 1d
£ 45 link Saint Kitts Leeward stamps used in the St Kitts villages are quite scarce, our vendor quotes Horry as stating probably no more than 35 from SANDY POINT exist; here we have four examples – QV 1d, KE 1d, KG5 2d and KG6 2d so across the four reigns. With it comes a KG5 ¼d from OLD ROAD and a KG6 1d from ANGUILLA
£ 15 link Saint Kitts Before the Paquebot markings came in, cancels to maritime mail were applied at the next port – here 1d stamps cancelled in Antigua, Barbados, Bermuda, Dominica and Trinidad are combined with Paquebot uses from Barbados, St John (NB) and Southampton
£ 12 link Saint Kitts OHMS envelope sent 31 AU 37 by the Post Office St Kitts-Nevis to California with a block of four of the 1½d Coronation but with considerable interest added by an orange-red Cinderella for British Industries Fair in Birmingham, UK in 1938 – did the colony participate?
£ 75 link Saint Kitts This year’s sale is an opportunity to acquire a range of the St Kitts censor marks. We start with CH1 (as described by Burrows) the ‘PASSED THE CENSOR’ hand stamp. Here we can offer an early example well struck in red on SP 25 39 cover to New York, with three penny stamps for surface postage. The second example is less boldly struck in purple on an airmail cover to the Quaker Oats Co also in New York. Postage 1s 4d (1d, 3d, 1s stamps); sent on 6 NO 40 and with Antigua transit of NO 13
£ 45 link Saint Kitts The CH2a large circle is the St Kitts censor mark we most commonly feature. Here we offer three surface rate examples with numerals 2, 3 and 4 on outgoing mail from St Kitts. Fine strike of ‘2’ in red on 1941 surface rate cover to New York; ‘3’ in purple well struck to California 22 OC 41; ‘4’ in red, slightly smudged to New Jersey 11 AP 40. This later marked per SS Nerissa – a passenger ship of the Bermuda & West Indies line that was torpedoed and sunk on 1 May 1941
£ 50 link Saint Kitts The same three CH2a marks on five incoming covers. Three clear examples of ‘2’ in red on 1940/41 covers from the USA; ‘3’ in violet incoming from California 1941 and what we make out to be ‘4’ in red on incoming item from Sweden April 1941
£ 45 link Saint Kitts The scarce CH3a octagonal Crown/PASSED/IBB with pencil 435 censor number. Very clear strike on PECO ppc of St John’s Cathedral, Antigua but sent from St Kitts 16 OC 44, 2d postage
£ 35 link Saint Kitts We single out a printed envelope headed ‘ON HIS MAJESTY’s SERVICE’ then MONEY ORDER ADVICE and finally ‘THE POSTMASTER’; this example initialled by the postmaster and sent to New York 25 FE 43 by Air Mail for 10½d. The initialling did not deter the censor as on the back is a fine strike in violet of the CH4 fancy censor lozenge with pen numeral ‘1’ tying a small piece of resealing tape to the envelope.
£ 30 link Saint Kitts A fine pair of covers with CH4 one in violet with numeral ‘1’ to Detroit and sent airmail via Antigua for 1s 1½d on 21 MY 42; the second in red with numeral ‘3’ sent surface to Boston, also via Antigua on JU 11 42
£ 90 link Saint Kitts The currency control marks are really quite difficult to find. A fine strike of CFH1 on 1942 cover sent, scruffily addressed to Halifax
£ 100 link Saint Kitts The currency control label CFL1 is even scarcer, here in very fine condition on surface rate cover to Montreal of 15 August 1941
£ 25 link Saint Kitts Moving on to the resealing labels we offer CL1 with the pre-printed BB/1 and the unrecorded ‘17’ in manuscript on 31 MY 43 cover sent airmail to Curacao for 1s 1½d
£ 20 link Saint Kitts The CL3 style PC90 labels were used by a myriad of censors, we take this one to be used by BB 114 used on a neat cover to Brooklyn sent 4 SP 44 for 2d 6d
£ 20 link Saint Kitts The pre-printed CL4 label of examiner BB 198 resealed this three colour 3d franking to California sent 30 AP 45
£ 35 link Saint Kitts 22 covers on pages, largely KG6 but including the 1935 SJ set on cover. To our eyes the most interesting are the commercial airmail items which include a 1947 letter to Stamford, CT at 8d with ‘AIRMAIL FROM ST KITTS’ cachet; a 1949 air letter sent to Shoreham at the 8d air letter rate; air mail letters at 42c, 44c, 48c (single use and with KLM airmail etiquette) and registered 50c (48c plus 2c) to track the changes in rates in the early 1950’s
£ 18 link Saint Kitts We can’t recall offering a parcel tag before, this one is addressed to Barclays Bank in Bridgetown Barbados and has a clear arrival date stamp of 18 MY 67. The St Kitts device used to cancel the three samps making up the $1.40 rate is far less clear – the stamps 15c, 25c, $1 SG137, 139 and 142 – we think a scarce survivor
£ 25 link Saint Kitts A further 22 covers on pages from the QE2 period up to associated statehood, again interest in the air mail rates but also includes a 1956 printed matter rate on card to France
£ 25 link Saint Kitts 16 rather more modern items on pages here including what looks to be a commercial $5 rate for a cover to Jersey sent in 2006 with a note that the previous year the rate was only $1.20. There is also a 1974 example of a slogan cancel – ‘MINI ISLE(S)/MAXI POTENTIAL’ reported in BWISC Bulletin 228, much of the rest shows the 1981 bird definitives on commercial cover.
£ 25 link Saint Kitts Columbus 2d PSRE size H2 sent to New York 6 Mar 1926 with KGV ½d and 4d uprating
£ 12 link Saint Kitts PPC of ‘Mountains Back of Basseterre’ with ½d Columbus on front to take to Seychelles 30 May 1905
£ 25 link Saint Kitts Six b/w ppc of St Kitts all unused produced by A Moure Losada and bearing numbers 54a (Brimstone Hill); 55a (Mount Misery); 72a (the Bridge of Cayon); 122a (St Thomas Church); 123a (Palm Avenue); 136a (A Village Scene). The Palm Avenue card a has a ¼d stamp and an inscription 2 January 1917, which helps date them.

£ 12 link Saint Vincent Two KG5 £1 mauve and black used: the script example lightly u., has short NE corner perf: cancel on MCA version leaves 90% of stamp clear, but we rate as a fiscal and has a scuff within
£ 25 link Saint Vincent These 21 stamps are the SG listed denominations that were issued as defins between 1955 and 1961. They are ex-Jaffe, mint or o.g. (hinge lightly attached in the odd instance), SG189-200a, cat. £189, all fine. It’s the extra shades that add the value

£ 30 link Trinidad Three stampless covers with US ‘SHIP’ hand stamp. One from James Witham 31 July 1844 from Trinidad to Portland, Boston entry d/stamp and manuscript 14; secondly, also 1844 to Baltimore marked ‘per Crescent’ and ‘12’; finally an 1809 cover to Baltimore inscribed ‘per Sussannah’ with 14 in red and a Philadelphia d/stamp – the mystery here is the origin, the island of Trinidad or the Cuban city of the same name
£ 40 link Trinidad A pair of stampless covers with fair strikes of the Trinidad dbl-arc. The first a dbl rate pkt letter to Carlisle sent JA 20 1846 for 2s; second single rate to Glasgow sent JU 6 1847
£ 40 link Trinidad Three pre-stamp items, the most interesting of which is to Paris, via London where the Col & Art 13 hstamp was applied and 90 decimes was charged in France – the date is an early one DE 24 1852 for the new date stamp without serifs – we would rate more highly if the strikes were better; with it you get an 1848 letter to New York that seems to have been carried by favour and a rather tatty envelope of 1855 coming in to Trinidad in 1855
£ 90 link Trinidad An attractive block of twelve of the (1d) blue SG3 with gum intact if a little age stained – cat. £276, but these are remainders
£ 90 link Trinidad We pair three blocks of four of the undenominated 1d, the purple brown of SG2, a deeper shade of blue of SG3 and a grey SG5, both have been mounted and have minor gum faults and toning. Attractive though
£ 200 link Trinidad A good four-margin example of the second lithograph issue (SG15) cat. £1,200, with it you get an altogether tattier copy which is damaged and to which we ascribe no extra value
£ 30 link Trinidad A fine block of six of the (1d) red lithograph SG20 unused, cat. £96 with a ‘used’ example which we treat as having a forged pmk
£ 90 link Trinidad Three pages of imperf Britannias, the first shows the design and includes Trinidad SG2, Barbados SG4 and Mauritius SG28 all unused and a colourful contrast, with these you get 11 imperf Trinidad Britannias in very mixed condn, mint and used. Possibly the best is an almost 4 mgn unused example of the 4d grey, SG25, the 1s indigo SG29 is also worth noting
£ 75 link Trinidad Somewhat tatty envelope to Nova Scotia, sent 26 May 1873 the fare paid with 1d carmine (SG69) and 4d grey (SG71), St Thomas transit on back
